Love, Hate and Enemy

So many tend to reject God because they do not see God acting in their lives. They don’t see that God is doing anything FOR them. They have it backwards. James 4:8 says “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” You must make the first move toward God. One such “first move” is to understand that you have already been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. That doesn’t mean you are saved; it means Jesus is standing at the door knocking; the question is…will you let Him in? You must first come near.

Unlike the nasty hate-filled posters from the Satan-driven Westboro Church in Topeka, Kansas, God does not hate, period. There is only one verse in the whole Bible where God says to hate and that is Amos 5:15, “Hate evil, love good”. You are created in God’s image, male and female (Gen 1:26-27). But we became alienated from God because of sin. We read in Col 1:21, “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.” (underlines added) Each of us created this enemy situation, this separation from God for ourselves; we must repent and come near to God. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16) Won’t you turn toward Christ your Creator/ He loves you!

Real Love takes a New Heart

Love is not just a feeling; it is so much more, and yes…love takes work. The culture tells you it is about feelings. If you are only relying on feelings, you will be very disappointed.
Yes, love takes work and many people want only the feelings of lust, unwilling to do the work real love takes. Roughly 50% of marriages apparently are not based on this “real love”, but are based on a hot “selfish love”. So when your selfish needs are not being met, you bale out on your promises and commitments made at the wedding alter. One only needs to listen to the talk of those divorced couples and you hear the familiar words: “I want this, I want that, my needs are not being met, I am unhappy…I, I, I” Selfishness!

My position is that real love shores up people, love transplants us; this is the main structure developed in the pages of the book, “A Different kind of Tree”. This book is about the pathway toward God’s unconditional love. It is about “surrender”…the surrender to God is how you start becoming a Christian.

A husband and wife are to become one flesh (Matthew 19:5); though the culture thinks otherwise, there is no “I” in Christian marriage. There is only “we” as one. The two are to become one. The culture would say, no Haven, you’re wrong; you must maintain your individuality. The misguided “culture-created” experts will tell you that you must not lose yourself; you must maintain “self.” Oh really? Ask yourself if the culture is getting better or worse under this misguided philosophy. The facts speak for themselves, my friends; don’t follow the “talking heads.” We must pray, connect with Jesus Christ, and obey the nudgings of the Holy Spirit. Don’t follow your feelings, for feelings are temporary, they cloud your vision and can be misguiding. Don’t follow your old heart, for a heart in rocky ground is an evil heart. The only right choice is to feed your heart on the “Bread of Life,” Jesus the Christ (John 6:35) to grow in fertile ground, then you will have a new heart.

PARADOX

Aren’t we living at a strange time? Maybe every generation has said this, but I wonder. We see worldwide celebrations of the birth of a new prince, yet we turn our backs on the thousands of aborted babies every day. Paradox! We go after young Zimmerman and throw gasoline on the fires of racial-hatred when there is no racial component in the case. Why? Do the emotional marchers have another agenda? They are not looking at the facts, so they must have other motives…but why all the hatred? These mis-guided marchers cry out about the unfortunate death of one young man, while ignoring the other hundreds of black on black deaths. The liberal programs have all but destroyed the black family; we should be crying out about a much bigger picture of destruction! Those crying for peace actually seem to dispose the most hate! Paradox!

We talk about diversity and allowing all to have their view points, but just propose a view point counter to the liberal masses and see the extreme hate that follows. Paradox! The ugly obscene posts on social media; the coarse language pouring out of unlearned mouths! These so-called loving people calling for the death of someone simply because they have a different point of view? What is going on in our culture now? Of course, they would say, “we don’t really mean it…it is just talk.” Oh, really? Just talk? No, it is mob rule and it is serious. Paradox! What you say is what is in your heart, plain and simple!

We must step back and look at where we are and where we are going. Reflect on your thoughts and your speech; are these acceptable in the sight of the LORD? Would you like the same words to rain down on you? Put your brain in gear before you open your mouth. Be alert yet be at peace. Show more love and less hate; this is something we all can do. Yes, I challenge you to become “A Different Kind of Tree”; sink your roots in more fertile soil.

Understanding Newtown, Connecticut…don't blame God

Often with these senseless tragedies, people will ask why did God let this happen, or worse…why did God do this? God is not the author of hate, evil, sadness and the tragic death of children. God loves, but there is evil in the world, uncreated by God. Mankind messed up God plan by following fallen angels rather than God. Today, we seem to kick out God and desire to follow the god of the culture. It will always fail. The hate and destruction this one boy dumped on 26 sets of loving families, on a town, and on a nation was not created by God. Though sought out, there is no closure of a loss such as this. Yes, this was already a gun-free zone, yes the school had just upgraded their security, yes there was already a ban on so-called assault weapons; the only thing that will work to save our children, our loved ones, our nation is to turn back to God and learn how to love one another…again.

Newtown, Connecticut’s Bad Tree

The book, “A Different Kind of Tree”, is about growth, where you find nourishment, and what kind of fruit you bear. The destroyer of Newtown, Connecticut’s innocent was “a tree” with roots deep into rocky desert ground. Ground that will generally only form dry twisted dead trees. No one can kill 20  six to seven year old children without being completely dead inside. All the so-called experts will be giving us all the societal reasons for this mental illness, but I contend an evil “tree” as this boy, was grown. Grown in a land that has rejected Jesus Christ, a land that is selfish and unloving, a land of relativity where no absolutes exist…no right and no wrong. We have created a dry “land”, devoid of the nourishment of civility, of humility, of decency, of sensitivity, and of consideration of others. We now experience the most ugly vile words normalized in our everyday speech. Ugly words, ugly dress, ugly music, ugly video games, ugly thought…they all add up to ugly actions. It all adds up to a haze of disbelief of what life is, and an awful “reverse arrogance”…the evil in Newtown probably thought that no one loved him, no one understood him, nobody cared for him, and that the whole world was against him. We have seen these tragic events before. There is only one way out…better nourishment can be found…instead of kicking Jesus Christ out of our culture, we need to turn back toward Him. Then and only then will we learn how to properly love others again.

Mystery is Good

Most people want to understand and be fully informed on all topics. It is good to be detailed and be sure of things that involve your life, but do you really want a God that can be fully understood? Wouldn’t that be the same as putting God in a box; that is, putting limits on God? Could a God that is limited to your limited understanding actually become your Savior & conquerer over the evils of Satan and over your moral & tragic sins? No! God is much greater than your understanding or even your imagination! So, why are there people who think they have “the God thing” all figured out? Haven’t you run across people who believe they have the answer to all the major issues surrounding God?

The Apostle Paul himself said that he knew in part, but one day he would fully know about God when he would come into His Glory. If it is okay for Paul to keep some things a mystery, then why is it not okay for you and me? Mystery is good; it shows that God is much bigger, much more grand & powerful than we could ever imagine. You’ve got to love a God like that!
