What kind of people are these?

In Oklahoma, we have a bill before the legislature to have a horse slaughter industry. People on both sides of the debate say they love horses and its about caring for the horses. The debate is not what I am concerned about for this post.

Whether you like the idea of horse slaughter or not, this is America where in a democratic society a representative of the people can bring a bill forward for debate, and if more people are in favor of the bill than are against it…it passes…or the reverse will happen. Well, the author of this bill has been receiving threats via telephone, mail, and in social media. Let that thought sink-in for a moment. So-called caring persons, compassionate for the lives of horses, are now threatening the life of a human being. Does that makes sense to anyone? I’ll answer…NO, it doesn’t. It is twisted and ugly!

Our “social” media culture has in many ways become anti-social, ugly and twisted. The coarse language, the prevalent ugly hateful debate, and the speed that the poison travels is startling. What have we become? I believe that the more we remove Jesus, who taught us how to love one another, from our culture, the more selfish and hateful our society will become, soon laws won’t matter anymore and anarchy will prevail. The crazies will show compassion for an animal by calling for the killing of a person. What have we become?

Young people – death is real, it is not a video game!

Dear Lord please comfort those hurt and suffering loss in Colorado this day! 14 innocent have been killed and many hurt while attending the new Batman movie! The youthful killer, decked out in body-armor like in some violent movie, acted for 20 minutes dropping tear gas and shooting the innocent, like he was racking up points in some bloody video game. To blend in, it started during a shooting scene in the movie. At first attendees thought it was part of the show…they expected the violence…but certainly not all real…and this was VERY REAL! Life and death is real; this is not some electronic game…push a few buttons and it is over! Memories of these events are NEVER over! Murdered people have families that love them and have dreams for thier lives. What are we becoming as a society? The ugly insane coarseness of our language! The sloppy way of dressing! The destruction of the body through piercings, tatoos, huffing, and drugs! Violent music! Violent video games! The ugly actions of  6 to 30 year olds upon their peers! The bullying! It is all related together! With the break down of the family, our morals, our integrity, our honesty, we have created generations crusted-over with a shell of deadness! …all the while, our society continues its work to remove God at break-neck speed! Oh, and it will break us alright…is that what you want? Pray and work to change our direction for the sake of the children…and my grandchildren!

What I got out of the Royal Wedding

I was NOT wrapped up in all the trappings of the Royal Wedding. It just seemed like a bunch of gossipping to me. But I awoke on that Friday morning with all the airwaves filled with TV coverage, and lo what did I see? I saw smiles, happiness and excitement. I saw a nation pull together for a singular event. I saw pride, laughter and merriment. People, lots of people, calmly wishing to be close; to be close enough to actually be a participant in the event. They were seeking to be included in something worthwhile and much bigger than themselves. I saw a world interested in something positive and happy…something good, instead of being a world we see in the news as being so hateful and ugly! The world was groaning and now is on fire; we need something beautiful and refreshing to put out those flames!

Peace is Impossible as long as there is Evil

A wonderful ministry, Truth for Life, shared the following comment:  “Peace between good and evil is an impossibility; to pretend otherwise would signal a victory for the powers of darkness.”  It was based on Revelation 12:7. Unlike the book entitled, “War and Peace”, peace is not the opposite of war; it is the opposite of threat…threat from evil.  Sometimes to remove the threat, we must engage in war; there is such a thing as a “just war”.
