Open Your Eyes to See Wonderful Design, Part 2

The debate over a fundamentalist view of creation and the anti-theological evolution view has become so stagnant and stale that people now pay no attention to the facts. So blinded to agendas, they close their minds and eyes to actually see truth; they seem to all miss the actual physical evidence. Can we stop with all the emotion? I honestly am trying to break the blindness and the unthinking-rigidness of each side’s deadened concrete argument. One only has to look at the beauty, design and coloring of a “Wood Duck” or the “Mandarin Duck” to know that what I say is true…these creatures did not evolve from slime to  become ducks of such unbelievable indescribable beauty? Take a look at the detail, the coloring, the rhythms, and the mathematical order in these beautiful creatures. These “works of art” just didn’t evolve one step at a time, from one specie to another to another; no, the “Wood Duck” and the “Mandarin Duck” are exquisite examples of God’s poetry! There is not one single reason you can give me to “explain away” why the coloration, the shapes, the design details of these two magnificent creatures. God is the Creator and perfect Designer…period!

God created each individual animal species and called it good. As an architect who understands form, design, composition, symmetry, color and aesthetics; it is impossible to look at the wonderful designs in nature and believe they evolved from something else as simple happenstance. The sooner scientists look through the eyes of a Christian at God’s creation, the sooner the great evolution debate will disappear. The “Wood Duck” male’s beautiful coloring may provide attraction to the dull-looking female Wood Duck, but pattern, delicate detail, symmetry, shape and rhythm are not necessary for sexual attraction. A simple mass of color for the male would attract the dull female in most bird species; design would have nothing to do with it. If design details had anything to do with sexual attraction, then the “Mandarin Duck” would have all the female ducks, for no duck can out class it’s design and coloration. The beautifully designed feather patterns have nothing to do with the duck’s survival; it is all about God smiling, having fun creating a wonderful composition, and saying “it is good”. Our Creator God loves to create! Forget your preconceived notions about the ordinary and start looking much much deeper.

Each work of creation must reflect a part of the Creator; It is the nature of creation, whether it is an artist, a sculptor, an architect, a musician, filmmaker, writer, or God. Part of the creator is found within the creation, within the created item. When you look at the beauty on this planet, be it a person, a sunset, a flower or a “Mandarin Duck”, what do you see? Do you see something that has evolved from something else lower than itself, while the creator sits on the sidelines with nothing to do? Or do you see a planned work of art, an individual creation from the Great Creator God? The sooner you see each part, created by God, “individually” one at a time, as an important part of the whole masterpiece, the sooner you will respect other life found in the people and animals of this planet.

Open your eyes to see God's wonderful design, Part 1

Butterflies! Do you take these insects for granted? How close have you ever looked at one? Do you see only flying insects from worms, or beautiful works of art? There are 140 different kinds just in Minnesota; why? Why the variety? The evolutionist would say there is “mimicry’; that is, the reason the “Monarch” and the “Viceroy” look so close to each other is because they wanted to confuse the birds. Can’t you just hear that Viceroy’s conversation? I imagine it this way: “Let’s see, I have a choice in my evolution, I can be like the “Tiger Swallowtail”…no, I saw those birds eating one of those guys the other day, but I did notice they didn’t eat that “Monarch”…that’s it, I’ll be like the “Monarch” so I’ll have a long life.” How insane the evolution argument is!

It is the design and coloring of most butterflies that impresses me; as an architect, this is available visual proof of a wonderful God designed creature. Look close, notice how accurate the mathematical designs of butterflies are; there is no serendipity here, a Masterful Designer plans these wonderful flying works of art. Why would evolution have symmetrical wing colorings? Symmetry of design is not needed for flight or survival or mate attraction. The evolutionist would have you think that coloring is for hiding, blending into your surroundings; this is true in some cases, some moths look just like tree bark, but this argument certainly does not apply with most butterflies. These same evolutionists would also have you think that brightly colored bodies are for mate attraction. I could go with that reasoning if it weren’t for the intricate details and the symmetry. Google a photo of this Black Swallowtail. Note the symmetrical faded shading toward the body and note how black the outer forward wings are, absolutely no shading at all. Note the small yellow patch (some have orange spots) in the alignment with the body axis, and how the white arcs are of equal number, size and all pointing toward the head. Can you really tell me with a straight face these “works of art” evolve over time from some lesser species? Nonsense! I invite you to look up a photo and study the detail within the circles of the “7 Circle” Butterfly, note the color shading within the wing and how the edges are detailed. Then study the “Eastern Tailed Blue” which has an outrageously wonderful blue wing that is outlined in black and then in light blue with a few balanced black and orange dots along the back edge. An evolutionary process would never add the dots to the outline. Now, study the “Buckeye” Butterfly’s wings, the coloring, the balance, the symmetry. First study the six circles, the outlining of each, the blue and the symmetry of size. On the lower wings, look for the red arcs highlighting the large circles and angled toward the insect’s head. Note the scalloped play of color banding along the trailing edge of the lower wings. Study the way the white coloring is distributed and the little dash of yellow under the upper wing’s circle. Check out the two orange black-edged bars at either side of this magnificent creature’s head. All showing a wonderful balance and symmetry; you never hear the evolutionists deal with symmetry because they can’t, and so goes their one-sided agenda. None of these design details is necessary to attract a mate, camouflage itself from predators, or otherwise help the creature to survive. So you think this is simply happenstance? Does a design of this wonderful detail just happen on its own, or is this the wonderful creation “hand-crafted” by some Master Architect? If you have been able to set aside your bias and your built-in agendas on the ridiculous blinding evolution argument to actually study these works of art, you can only arrive at one conclusion…there is no evolution going on here, only a Great Creator God at work and having unbelievable fun doing it. Yes, God definitely has fun creating; He did it and said it was good. There are numerous other designed masterpieces we can point to; I invite you to open your eyes up and look closer, much closer, closer than you normally view such things and see a wonderful world unfold. Then, why don’t you sing praises to the Author of our creation?

In the vastness of the Universe, YOU are a special gift

Mankind has always driven to ask the questions of why we exist, what else is going on out there in the heavens, are we the only life in the Universe, will we exist after this life? I have heard people say that with the Universe so large that mathematically, the odds are there just has to be life on some other planet. They deem life to be simply one big search! I see it differently, understanding the age and the bigness is very important to the Christian.

We will be using a term, “light-year”; which is the distance light travels in one year. Light travels at a set speed, God gave us a wonderful fact of the Universe, in that the speed of light is set at a constant 186,000 miles per second. Andrew Fraknoi gives a neat way of understanding the distance of a light-year: A piece of string 1 light-year long would wrap around the equator of the earth 236 million times. We look at our Sun and think that it is far away, yet light takes only 8 minutes to reach Earth. The next nearest star beyond our sun is a little over 4 light-years away (the length of a piece of string that would wrap around the equator of the earth 944 million times).

With tools such as the Spitzer Space Telescope at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, helping us to find galaxies as deep as 11 billion light-years from earth, we know there are millions of galaxies in the Universe. Our Milky Way galaxy is part of a group of about 24 galaxies that we call the Local Group. Light that just now left the Great Galaxy in Andromeda, in our Local Group, will not reach us for another 2 million years. But please realize, we see that galaxy today; therefore, the light we see must have left the galaxy over 2 million years ago. We also know the Universe is much older than 2 million years because we see light from stars and galaxies much farther away than our Local Group.

Before you get all turned-off with a bunch of “boring numbers”, let me tell you why it is important for you to get a sense of the size of the Universe. The Christians that automatically reject scientific facts because they come from “science” and therefore must go against the Biblical Scriptures are missing a grand experience in the glory and wonderment of God’s Creation. If you are one of those Christians that believe the age of the Universe is 4 or 5 thousand years old as they claim the Bible purports (and I believe the Bible as Truth), let me say that you are uninformed based on our earthly view and our existence in time and space, yet you would be correct if you live outside our 3-dimensional world and in a multi-dimensional world. Simply look into the heavens at those tiny specks of light; we can see the proof of a much older Universe. It is real so don’t blindly turn your back on the facts just because you think it goes against your beliefs. Your beliefs are right and true, but not from your limited three-dimensional earthly view of the Universe. “Time” is a created dimension; a gift from God. From God’s view beyond “time” itself, the Universe is just now forming and just now ending (and everything between), all at this same moment. When there is no movement of time at all, we call that “now”; no past and no future, the beginning and the end are the same moment. Therefore, we can say that both the Biblical Creation of 6 days is correct and our earthly view that the Universe is millions and millions of years old is correct…both correct at the same time.

When asked if he was a man of faith in God as our Creator, Dr. William Blair, an astrophysicist and research professor at Johns Hopkins University, said yes and noted that he believed God created the heavens and the earth. The reason this is important is that Dr. Blair, who heads a NASA project looking into deep space, has written about the vastness of the universe, the Hubble Deep Field project, and noted the universe could hold upwards of 40 billion galaxies. Our Milky Way galaxy is but one of these 40 billion and Dr. Blair sees the hand of God in it. This is awesome my friends; here we find an astrophysicist and researcher who physically knows so much more than I, who sees it all as God created just as I do. My Christian brethren, don’t put all scientists down, we could all learn a lot about God from a man like this.

And here is the point, there is nothing in the Bible that would even suggest life on some other planet. God has created life only on Earth. Understanding the vastness and the grand design of the Universe points us toward an understanding of how loved we are by our Creator. In the vastness of the Universe, God knows you as a single individual and God is calling you to come to Him. Won’t you? God created you and loves you; what is going to be your response to that special gift?

The Relationship between Creator and Creation

It is a God given wish of all humans to create, yes, I mean each and every one of us. Why? Because it is a reflection of you; we all wish to leave a mark, part of you ends inside that creation.

There is an inner spirit in each of us, yes each of us, created by God and in His image and character. Besides the Holy Spirit, this other inner spirit is the creative “juice” that will move to do creative things. I like to call it “juice” because it (whatever “it” is) this creative essence in each of us, “flows”. You can feel it when it is moving and you know when it dries up. Haven’t you heard an artist say things like, “I don’t have it anymore” or “nothing was coming to me”? Every artist has a dry period; a period when the “juice” is not flowing. The juice hasn’t dried up forever, gone and never to be experienced again. No, the juice is still within you; it has only ceased to flow at that given time. It is best to just get up and do something else for a time. When the juice is flowing, you can do amazing things. Michelangelo’s statue of David can be carved out of a rough block of marble. Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, called “Fallingwater” in Bear Run, Pennsylvania can be designed. Leonardo Da Vinci’s 16th Century painting of the “Mona Lisa” and Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” can all be created out of nothing, ex nihilo baby!

Every time you read a novel, a poem, a sonnet, a play, any literary work, you have revealed something of whom the writer is and about their life. You can see that Michelangelo understands human anatomy when you view his drawings, such as the portion of the Sistine Chapel ceiling called the “Creation of Man”. Most architects display “their style” to the point that a person can view a set of buildings and place the architect’s name beside each one. In the created object, there is indeed part of the creator.

When we view God’s creation, we see part of God. Our Creator, the Lord God Almighty, will move His creation toward higher order through relationship. This is why He created us. He loves us! He wants to see us grow toward completeness, just as we delight in seeing our own children grow toward completeness, and become fine adults. How many parents have looked out from the audience at the school awards ceremony, to see a child receiving an award, and think “I had something to do with that…I sure am proud!”

A sense of completeness and relationship, we each seek this “reward of living”, much more important than money. So it is with God, and this is why He created you and I. He seeks out relationship with us; God desires to look at us and say “well done my good and faithful child, I am proud of you and I love you so very much”.

Some would say that God has no need of us. I think just the opposite. Why? As an architect, I know about the feelings between a creator and his creation. I know there is a “relationship” with the created object; after all, as discussed earlier, the created object is actually a part of the creator. God delights in creating; we are all created in His image. You don’t create and then destroy a masterpiece. Oh, you may experiment, realize it isn’t working, and then start over, drawing on your newly acquired knowledge of what works and what doesn’t. But you don’t destroy your final masterpiece; you work to save it. God is reaching out to you now; salvation can be yours.

Reflecting on Chaos – Part 3

As I reflect more about our world, our culture, I see a complete breakdown in structure. Our great country was established with 3 equal branches of government; there were checks and balances. We now have a president who openly says he is going to go around congress. He unilaterally changes written law and a blind congress cheers him on! We have half the country wanting government to do everything for them; what will we have in another 5 years? Friends this is an extreme chaotic situation. All structure has become burry and fuzzy! Where is truth anymore in the dark abyss of relativism?

Published today, a great thinker of our day, Thomas Sowell wrote in his last paragraph on “Random Thoughts”:
“Once, when I was teaching at an institution that bent over backward for foreign students, I was asked in class one day: “What is your policy toward foreign students?” My reply was: “To me, all students are the same. I treat them all the same and hold them all to the same standards.” The next semester there was an organized boycott of my classes by foreign students. When people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination.”

With words better than mine, Dr. Sowell has painted a perfect picture of chaos. Everyone wants preferential treatment; how can that possibly have a chance of succeeding? Where is common sense? Where is balance? Where is forgiveness and grace? In a world such as what we are currently building at breakneck speed, we can only end up in destruction. SO…this begs the question…what can we do about it? It is obvious to me; we have to put back what we took out. And, what did we take out? The main structure of the universe, the Creator of you and me, the God who loves you so much He sent His only Son to come, show you how to live, and to give you a new start by taking your sins away. You have been redeemed, but salvation requires your action, you have to turn toward Him, have faith and believe in Jesus. Friends, we must put God back in our lives! Give Jesus Christ the preeminence in your life and you will see the dark chaos removed from your life. It will be such Good News that you will want to tell somebody else, and then somebody else, and then somebody else…and so it goes! It is our only salvation from chaos!

Black, white, yellow or red…male or female…we are all created in His image. Don’t fall for the “cultural quick-sand” of race & sex division, most often used politically by selfish sides for their power, not their resolution. You don’t create and then set aside or destroy a masterpiece. God is reaching out to you now; He wants to see how His “mankind poem”, His very fine workmanship has turned out. Won’t you turn to Him and say, “thank you Lord for first loving me, so now I wish to love you Lord.”

God Creates Still…What will you notice in 2013?

Yes, it is true…many don’t believe in God, many more don’t believe in Jesus Christ. They work to condemn those that DO believe; what is in it for them to do so? Do their attacks on Christianity make the world a better place? No! Why not keep quiet and let those of us “who falsely believe” (their words not mine) just keep going in the wrong direction? Is there something about Jesus Lord and Savior that scares them? Yes, I think so! If God is dead, they should not be afraid, but those “anti-God, anti-Jesus” zealots ARE indeed afraid of something! The heavens and earth cry out the good news of the Great Creator God, you only need eyes to see (Ps. 19:1 and Romans 1:18-20). God, the Great I Am, is active in the world today…will you notice His activity in 2013? You must believe that you are loved (John 3:16-18)! The Holy Spirit will make your burdens light, just believe in Jesus; a firm belief in this promise will change your 2013, why not start today on this first day of the new year? Change your direction, open your eyes and your heart, and let The Creator into your life today!

Why this book is different:

“Looking” is a matter of perspective; to grow you have to open your eyes to a different way of viewing the facts. “Growth” is like a staircase; to get to the top, you must simply take one step after another. At each step, you will have the ability to see things at a higher level, a higher perspective…differently. Today many of the “arguments of the ages” have become tired and boring to people because they are at the base of the stairs and only hear the same arguments repeated. Is that going to be the end of our growth? People dig-in to defend “their turf”, without any vision, in the serious arguments of: does God exist, the creation of mankind, the Big Bang, evolution, nature, the Doctrine of Election, predestination, miracles, and time. They don’t have a clue that they are starting at the base of the staircase, and there is so much available that will enrich their lives. What then is to be OUR next step? This book is not just “the next step”; oh no, it is a quantum leap forward!

A quantum leap forward maybe a bold statement, but it is honest. The reason this book is different from the others that search for truth, or deal with theology & cosmology, is that it shows a person how to look differently at the world and universe around you. The answers to their questions, the questions of wars, and the questions of the ages are right in front of you.
