It is not “earth-shattering” news that many don’t believe in the Bible; and even more, though professing belief in God, that don’t believe in Jesus Christ as Messiah. However, there has never been a book to hold up to scholarly scrutiny for over 2,000 years and still remains as solid truth as the Bible. Today, as I write, the world has celebrated Christmas and many are celebrating Hanukkah for 8 days, both are called Festivals of Lights. They both celebrate God’s miracles and salvation.

165 years before the birth of Jesus, Hanukkah celebrates the miracle of the Temple oil (there was only enough for one day at this time of Temple restoration) actually lasting 8 days; we Christians know Jesus the Christ to be the Light of the world, a Light that cannot be extinguished. How many people know that some 800 years before Christ’s birth, that it was all prophesied exactly as it happened, in the 7th and 9th chapters of the Book of Isaiah? This account of the coming Messiah is not taught to our Jewish friends, so many still look for the Messiah.

But more to the point of Jesus being THE Light of the world, the world is filled with the darkness of evil, a darkness full of greed, a darkness wishing to control others. The birth of the Christ Child is about the light of salvation, light showing us how to live together and please God by seeking relationship. It is not about the darkness of control, power, and greediness. Where the world separates peoples, Christ unifies all who believe in Him into the one family of God. Which will you chose…the world or Christ Jesus?
